pbxes

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

If you want extensions with multiple accounts from one or different sip providers, and you don’t want to spend extra money, pbxes could be a solution. Besides pbxes, mysipswitch.com is another option.

Here is a good post talking about how to use for nokia e61. But basically, it’s the same for sip softphone on computers or sip devices.

OP at http://solokay.blogspot.com

Comment: As I tested, the quality is not so outstanding, conversely, I can barely make or receive any call. And I can edit Registrations expect “add new”. But it’s nice to have another service like this. I guess it’s just because this company just started and they have a lot to improve. Hopefully, they’ll get everything will be better soon.

Absolutely Free Outgoing to US and Incoming Calls!

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

I’m talking about absolutely totally free, so we don’t use cell phone here.
You need a computer with internet access.

1. Go to http://www.aim.com/, get a AIM screen name and a aimphoneline which is a free US local phone number.
Now, you can receive calls.

2. Apply for another free local phone number at grandcentral.com(now Google).
When you get the number, set up forwarding to your US DID from talkdigits.

Now, you could receive calls if somebody call either your AIM number or grandcentral number.
Next we are going to make outgoing calls.

3. In grandcentral account, we can make a call back button which was originally used for people to call us. What we do is we generate a call back button.
1) Generate the code
2) Create a txt file
3) Copy and paste the code in the txt file
4) Save the txt as .html (choose all file types)

4. Open the file with IE, we put in the number we want to call, and click Call. Your xlite rings, and you are connected to the number.

Isn’t this nice?
Want nicer?
In the way above, you need AIM in the computer. Sometimes, we don’t have AIM in the computer and we don’t want to or can’t install AIM. So we can make our Phone portable.

1. Download Softphone (you could also use sip device)
Download Xlite 3.0 for Windows
More download here

2. Register a free talkdigits US DID which is a US Phone Number here.

3. Set up the phone number at xlite using the following configurations.
user name: your talkdigits number
password: your talkdigits password
domain/sip proxy: talkdigits.net

Now you can receive calls with talkdigits number.

4. Again, forward calls from grandcentral to talkdigits number.
Now, you could receive calls if somebody call your talkdigits number or grandcentral local number. Of course, we prefer using local number.

This could make it portable because Xlite can work without installation. What you do is copy the xlite folder from C:\Program Files to your flash drive. Then you could use it wherever you want. But of course, you need bring a mic/headset with you also.

Want nicer? Use a sip adapter, then you’ll have a true phone instead of computer to talk for free.

GO-SIP SoftPhone Sip Client for Mobile

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

http://www.go-sip.com/guides/images/smart/splash.png
Finally I found a perfect sip softphone for my SDA.
Compared to the following softphones, go-sip has a lot of advantages for my SDA and actually works.

GO-SIP(from Peer2Phone): The required space and memory is acceptable. It works with my SDA seamlessly perfectly. I can use all features of it. I though it was in french because the guide on the website is in French. After I installed it, I see everything in English which is good for me. When we are tring to download, we need pick a brand or operator and device reference. I picked Tmobile as it’s operator. I don’t see the SDA in the device reference, so I picked any one with HTC. I turns out it doesn’t matter. We need also put in a voip operator like Bewip. It turns out that we could set it for any service provider. To use it for other providers, I need choose “other” as the operator to activate it when I start it. (I chose manually, but it didn’t go through.)

After it’s activated, it runs. Then we need configure the settings for other service providers. I need restart it before it actually registers on my sip server.

After installation, it’ll be put in the startup. If you don’t want it to run automatically when you restart your phone, you can remove it from startup.

Besides voip calls, in the menu, there are some other features like my email, TV, maps, music etc.

On it’s website, it states “Telephone and multimedia free of charge unlimited 24 hours a day and 7 days a week !”. So it’s free. I made a test call, the sound seemed good. I’ll use it for longer and see how it goes.

Compared to Go-Sip, here are other softphones I tried.

BeWip: 1. Evaluation version. 2. Complicated installation. 3. Taking much space. 4. Limited specific service providers.
Actually, I didn’t make it work although I succeeded to install it.

SpeaQ: It’s for PDA although it can run on some smartphones. It’s very small which is good.
I installed it and registered it to my sip server, but I can’t press any buttons to make calls. And there are some other problems. If I go to home screen, SpeaQ will shutdown. Once I put in the settings, I can’t change it in the settings, instead I have to change the sipconfig.txt file.

Kapanga Softphone: It works with my SDA with some disadvantages as follows. It’s comparatively large. It put a lot of stuff in my phone, and takes much memory to run. I got some problems when I used it. I have to change the txt file if I need do any settings. Setting is a little complicated because there are a lot of pamarameters. The software main window doesn’t fit my screen perfectly. Maybe there’s a value to set the position of the window. I can’t go to home screen. To do that, the only way is to quit.

ESCSoftPhone: It’s IAX client and worked on my SDA. But what I used is demo version and expired very soon. Otherwise it’s not free. It’s very tight. Actually I’ll like it without considering money.

More info about Xten-Pro for Mobile

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

A post from modaco.com says: (quote) OP

I finally managed to run SIP client “x-pro” pocket PC edition on i-mate SP5 (qtek 8310) and i-mate SP3i (qtek 8020).

1 - Get the “x-pro.cab” file. Install it on a PPC then copy two files “x-pro.exe” and “AES_PPC_DLL.dll” to SP5 /windows directory or /storage/windows for sp3i;

2 - Set up your SIP accounts on the PPC running “x-pro”. Activate x-tunnels if you intend to use non-wifi connexions. Then, using Resco Reg Editor, export “/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/xten…/X-PRO” to x-pro.reg file, and copy this file as well to your SP5 or SP3i;

3- Create a shortcut to “x-pro.exe” in /windows/Start Menu/ (Storage/windows/Start Menu for Sp3i);

4 - Run Resco Reg Editor on your SP5/3i, import “x-pro.reg” file, reboot and get ready.

5 - connect SP5 to wifi (connect Sp3i to internet via bluetooth and activesyc 4.1)

6 - launch X-PRO from the “Start” menu and wait untill it is connected to you SIP gateway.

7 - simply dial the numbers from the smartphone dialpad, connect with a press on the joystick.

8 - You’re done !!! Quality of sound is acceptable on SP5, very PTT like from SP3i.

9 - No need to overclock or whatever, it doesn’t seem to have any effect on quality.

10 - Log window can be accessed by a long press on “#”

11 - Any comments, please feel free to post.

Someone in the thread says, when he opens x-pro.exe in the phone it says ‘Evaluation complete. Thank you for evaluating X-PRO. Please contact your vendor for more information.’

He says: (quote)

Instead, I found ineen.com - they use the X-PRO software - and their softphoen for PPC, which I’m able to run, but I cannot call another user’s internal Ineen number, even if both users are online. I don’t know if I’m doing it correctly with using Line1 and Line2, but at least there is a trunk tone coming out of the speaker.

Have a look at http://www.ineen.com/download_ppc.html

Another post says: (quote)

SIP client… The smartphone version is specifically made for 8310/SP5.
It integrates with the existing dialer so you can do things like call waiting between GSM and VoIP, as well as use the phone book.

Contact the phone, it costs 40 euro’s for a single license.
