Voicestick on Asterisk

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

I checked all posts. Finally I got it work. One thing it seems to be that the order matters.

[i2telecom.com]
allow=ulaw
canreinvite=no
context=voicestick
disallow=all
dtmfmode=rfc2833
fromdomain=i2telecom.com
fromuser=1xxxxxxxxxx
host=i2telecom.com
insecure=invite
nat=yes
outboundproxy=206.165.50.116
port=5060
secret=xxxxxx
type=peer
username= 1xxxxxxxxxx

When I used this, it didn’t work.
When I call the number, it gave me error message:
NOTICE[18415]: chan_sip.c:3588 process_sdp: No compatible codecs!

Then I tried another one, it worked.

[i2telecom.com]
type=peer
username=1xxxxxxxxxx
secret=xxxxxx
port=5060
host=i2telecom.com
fromuser=1xxxxxxxxxx
fromdomain=i2telecom.com
context=voicestick
outboundproxy=206.165.50.116
canreinvite=no
insecure=invite
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
dtmfmode=rfc2833
nat=yes
qualify=yes

Both of these two are from some posts and are almost the same except the order.

We have to change

allow=ualw
disallow=all

to

disallow=all
allow=ulaw

for it to work.
In the first case, all codecs are disallowed I think. 2nd one, ulaw is allowed.

Unlimited international PSTN(including Cell Phone) Calls with VOIP

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

What we are going to do here we try to use our cell phone to make calls through VOIP service.

The advantages are:

1. If you are in US, you have VOIP service at home(Not something like vonage). You want to have more flexibility so that you can also use VOIP when you are not home using your cell phone.

2. If we want our families in those areas or countries without internet to use VOIP with us. (We need get a DID number in that area or country to avoid long distance rate.)

3. It’s not PSTN callback. PSTN service in the market are comparatively expensive.

4. People can also do it with sip cpe FX300 or celliax. With those, it could be free to call the access number using Tmobile to Tmobile. But that will cost monthly fee for another sim card and T-to-T unlimited call.

5. More as you like.

Solution: We need set up asterisk@home. We have an access set up in the asterisk server. When we call this number with a PSTN phone, we are prompted for a password. We put in the password and are allowed to dial the destination number.

Let’s say I’m using voipstunt to make calls. And I’m using stanaphone voip-in number as the access number.

So in sip.conf:

[general]

nat=yes
externip=my asterisk server ip
;externip=200.201.202.203
localnet=192.168.0.0/255.255.0.0 ; Also RFC1919

register => stananumber:stanapassword@sip.stanaphone.com

;It’s the username and password for the website. We need login stanaphone and go to account information to get the configuration information.

[stanaphone]
type=friend
insecure=very
canreinvite=no
context=disa
username=stana number
host=sip.stanaphone.com
secret=stana password
nat = yes
disallow=all
allow=alaw
allow=ulaw
dtmfmode=RFC2833

in extensions.conf:

[disa]
exten => s(or stana number),1,Answer
exten => s(or stana number),2,DigitTimeout(5)
exten => s(or stana number),3,ResponseTimeout(20)
exten => s(or stana number),4,Authenticate(XXX)
;XXXX is the password you set up
exten => s(or stana number),5,DISA(no-password|voipdiscount)

[voipdiscount]
exten => _91NXXNXXXXXX,1,StripMSD,1

exten => _1NXXNXXXXXX,2,Dial(sip/sipout/${EXTEN})

According to my test, freedigits has DTMF problem. The system will not correctly get the numbers I dial. And there must be externip for stanaphone, otherwise it can not register.

Now, we can call international with voipstunt by cell phone anywhere anytime, even without a callback connection fee.

Basically, this is a calling card sytem. We can also set up a password for different users. If we can get a DID from another country, our people in that country call call the access number with long distance fee, then dial an international number with 9 first.

    1. Another way revenue is generated is by charging a EUR 0.05 connection fee for every free call. I live in France. After the free trial I bought EUR 10 of prepaid fees. The connection fee is shown each time you dial a free call. After 3, my balance is now 9.85. The problem is this - nowhere until this point is there any mention of a connection fee, in fact all the advertising states the complete opposite. So it is a case of blatantly dishonest advertising and consumer fraud. Les HComment by Les Henderson — February 7, 2007 @ 11:18 am
    2. There’s a connection if you make a call back. For direct dialing, there should be no connection fee.Anyway, I have to say the customer care of this company really sucks. Last time, my accounts were suspended for a long time. They told me that some body used my credit card or something to add credit. That’s the only thing they told me after a bunch of my emails. Now, my accounts are suspened again. And they never ever respond to me. I don’t even know what happened.Comment by alen — February 7, 2007 @ 9:43 pm

    5. I am using Betamax voip services for quite a long time. But recently they have stared fraudulent tricks with their customers. My accounts with http://www.voipcheap.com, http://www.sparvoip.com and http://www.justvoip.com have been blocked without any reason. I have enough credit balance in all these accounts. But still they have stopped outgoing calls from these acoounts. This same thing happened with some other people I know.But surprising a couple of my friends informed me that their accounts are operating well. I don’t know why the betamax people are doing this type for selective fraud !!!!Does anyone know how to get my money back from these people ??

    8. I am using VOIP Betamax since long ago and I AM VERY SETISFY with the services it provides us. But most of the time i am being charged without my attempt. Is there any way to find out why i am being charged though I am not purchasing any credit? Below are the details of purchasing Betamax Credit using my VISA Card. Is it automatically charged by BETAMAX or somebody else is misusing my credit? I think its a very seriou matter to me and if somebody else is misusing my credit, better please blacklist my VISA Card for any type of BETAMAX services in future.1. 04/04/2007 04/06/2007 Purchase - BETAMAX VOIP CREDIT COLOGNE DE 74741997095043004372043 ($14.11)2.04/11/2007 Purchase - BETAMAX VOIP CREDIT COLOGNE DE 710108624973 ($29.11)

    12. we’re using voipbuster since 1.5 ur (from NL). Paying no problem at all, first through bank account now via Ideal & bank. Freedays now appear within a few minits on the screen. Costs 11.70 euro per 120 days…..
      We use an ATA and a normal phone: the qualtity is very good, even to Canada. It is much better then using the PC (echo).
      I do not recogize the problems here, I hope VB and others do something about it, as they seem to pay for it.

    14. I’ve been using VoipStunt, InternetCalls and now DialNow.com for a few years now. Have never had any billing, spam or credit card problems with them. I have I’ve set up 3 WRTP54G, 2 RTP300 and 3 PAP2 ATAs on one voipstunt account so my whole family shares my 300 free minutes/ week. (ATAs can share the same account and make simultaneous calls, but soft client can’t) DialNow.com is used to call my nephews cell phones in South Africa. Rceently my cousin w/friends were in Belize which has exorbitant dial out rates I set up my trixbox to recognize their cell#, automatically call back and open a dialtone… their calls cost about $.13/min. (My only complaint… I would have liked free incoming Netherlands number so family there could call us for free.)Comment by Dave Tap — September 29, 2007 @ 1:10 am
    15. There is more to this company than you know. Today I called my bank because of a debit to my acct. I was unfamiliar with. Seems this company somehow got their hands on my credit card number and charged me for service I DON’T HAVE?? I use cell phones and don’t find that even a regular home phone is a necessity, yet oddly without even the software on my pc to use such a service I was charged for it anyway. Thankfully my bank intends to press charges for fraud. Kudos to you Betamax !! I assume you will be hearing from the states atty. gen. office very soon.Comment by Fran A. — November 6, 2007 @ 12:42 am

    Inbound Calls Directly to your Xten/X-lite/eyebeam without any VoIP service provider

    Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

    How to accept direct inbound calls to your X-lite/eyebeam, bypassing all VoIP providers?

    • Does your registered provider not allow inbound SIP URI calls?
    • Do you want to cut down on latency/echo, by bypassing your VoIP provider on inbound VoIP calls?
    • Do you simply like the idea of allowing calls directly into your softphone?

    Let’s take voipcheap as an example. What you need do is the following.

    1. Register your voipcheap on X-lite.

    • username: voipcheap username
    • password: voipcheap password
    • authorization user name: voipcheap username
    • Domain: voipcheap.com

    Now, if you click ok, your X-lite should be able to register with the server.

    2. For eyebeam 1.1, change Sip Listen Port to 5060. For X-lite 3.0, change “port used on local computer” to 5060-5061 (I cannot just put in 5060).

    3. Put in Stun server as “stun.voxalot.com.au:3478″.

    4. In your router’s configuration, forward UDP port 5060 to your computer’s local IP address.

    5. Register an ipkall number, do the setting as follows.

    • username: voipcheap username
    • sip proxy: your WAN ip address

    Now, you have finished all setting. After 1 hour, the number will take effect.

    6. user no-ip(optional)

    If you often change your WAN ip or your WAN ip is changing very often because it’s dynamic ip(usually, even if it’s dynamic, the ip will be stable which is my case), you could register on no-ip.com and get a dynamic DNS for your WAN ip. Put the DNS in your ipkall setting as “sip proxy”. Then you need run the client software from no-ip in your computer, which I don’t like.

    Enjoy totally free US number with your softphone!
