Absolutely Free Outgoing to US and Incoming Calls!
I’m talking about absolutely totally free, so we don’t use cell phone here.
You need a computer with internet access.
1. Go to http://www.aim.com/, get a AIM screen name and a aimphoneline which is a free US local phone number.
Now, you can receive calls.
2. Apply for another free local phone number at grandcentral.com(now Google).
When you get the number, set up forwarding to your US DID from talkdigits.
Now, you could receive calls if somebody call either your AIM number or grandcentral number.
Next we are going to make outgoing calls.
3. In grandcentral account, we can make a call back button which was originally used for people to call us. What we do is we generate a call back button.
1) Generate the code
2) Create a txt file
3) Copy and paste the code in the txt file
4) Save the txt as .html (choose all file types)
4. Open the file with IE, we put in the number we want to call, and click Call. Your xlite rings, and you are connected to the number.
Isn’t this nice?
Want nicer?
In the way above, you need AIM in the computer. Sometimes, we don’t have AIM in the computer and we don’t want to or can’t install AIM. So we can make our Phone portable.
1. Download Softphone (you could also use sip device)
Download Xlite 3.0 for Windows
More download here
2. Register a free talkdigits US DID which is a US Phone Number here.
3. Set up the phone number at xlite using the following configurations.
user name: your talkdigits number
password: your talkdigits password
domain/sip proxy: talkdigits.net
Now you can receive calls with talkdigits number.
4. Again, forward calls from grandcentral to talkdigits number.
Now, you could receive calls if somebody call your talkdigits number or grandcentral local number. Of course, we prefer using local number.
This could make it portable because Xlite can work without installation. What you do is copy the xlite folder from C:\Program Files to your flash drive. Then you could use it wherever you want. But of course, you need bring a mic/headset with you also.
Want nicer? Use a sip adapter, then you’ll have a true phone instead of computer to talk for free.
